Ghost’s Feature Length Debut Rite Here Rite Now Brings a BIG Show to the Silver Screen!

During the fall of last year 2023, heavy metal act Ghost out of Sweden had formed back in 2006, have since toured extensively, releasing four albums, debuting the “Imperatour” in 2022 through 2023, where they would conclude said tour in Los Angeles, California with two back to back nights in Inglewood, California at The Forum. This night being filmed for what would eventually be a live album and feature length concert film of these nights. It would be titled “Rite Here Rite Now” a lyric from one of their tracks known far and wide.

Lead singer Tobias Forge, would be backed by a band of masked musicians known only as “Nameless Ghouls” this night, and close to ten months later, this concert film would release on the BIG screen in the summer of 2024 on June 20th 2024. Screening across the globe, fans would gather, dressed up on full make up, to others adoring hats, t-shirts, vests and jackets even. Some even sporting the concert t-shirt, of the actual show, of those who were luckily enough to attend it. Opening night is when I got to check out the film, because when it was first announced, that was the only option, when such excitement was said, more dates were added from June 20th to June 23rd 2024, catching it with a small crowd in an independent theater known as the Laemmle Noho 7 in North Hollywood, California for 7PM.

Fans grabbed their snacks upon arrival, with others heading into the theater, taking their seats, the room dimmed with previews, then darkened with an announcement made saying how the fans in said room, were allowed for the next 10 minutes or so, to pull out their phones, take photos, videos, do whatever before the actual film would commence. After the countdown had finished, the movie would begin, have a voice over discuss how Ghost would briefly become, then showcase an object hit The Forum venue, where the band was arriving in their touring van, and they would exit said vehicle and enter the venue, arriving on the stage, to begin playing for the next 2 hours and 30 minutes!

Seventeen songs were sung this night, some included “Absolution”, “Twenties”, “Mary On A Cross”, “Kiss The Go Goat” and “Square Hammer” to name off a few. A bonus track titled “The Future Is A Foreign Land”, was played during the end credits, and yes there was an after credits scene that caused utter joy but disappointment as well. But the actual concert experience, provided with the filming captured, was done really well, because it caught two shows on two different nights, this film contained a narrative story that was based upon the fictional lore surrounding the band and its characters. Due to filming there was a strict no phone policy for those in attendance that night. Getting the chance to attend the second night back on September 12th 2023, was a night to remember. Re-experiencing it this evening was even better!

Directed by Alex Ross Perry and cinematographer editor Robert Kolodny, who have previously worked with Ghost prior, worked on this big screen adaption and again all that was done for it was flawless. The sound and look just made this concert more enjoyable. The music was amazing, to hear yet again, it is worth experiencing once, at least. This release receiving a live album and later DVD release in the coming months, who would not want to bring this content into their homes, it is something to behold, cherish, and enjoy.
