Early Ettringite Formation Discusses Shows, Music and More!

Rockers EARLY ETTRINGITE FORMATION started ten years ago, with two album's released thus far, with all new songs already in pre-production, summer shows set, with so much else in-store aside from music, the band discusses so much with else!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

It all started almost ten years ago when Mattia (drums) and Umberto (guitar) met at a jam session, and after playing a few notes together, the idea of creating and developing our own music was born. Shortly after, Giovanni (bass), already our friend and Mattia's "rhythm section" partner, joined us. After a few years of rehearsals, first drafts of songs, and tireless research, Leonardo (saxophone) from Ancona finally joined us. Lastly, just over two years ago, Edoardo (vocals) completed and crowned the formation.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The acronym EEF stands for Early Ettringite Formation: in short, Ettringite is the mineral that makes cement compact and "hard as a rock." With a touch of literary license, it has become the philosophy that characterizes our band.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based in the Marche region of central Italy. The music scene is very diverse, with many people playing both at an amateur and professional level. Many friends we hang out with play in various and talented bands. Unfortunately, however, there are not many live clubs or suitable venues for live performances, so there are many musicians but few opportunities to play live music.

4. How would you describe your style?

There are always heated internal debates when it comes to the "genre labels" that represent us. This means that each of us will probably give a different definition, sometimes almost opposite. I would say that the foundation is definitely rock, with a thousand influences (stemming from our personal experiences) ranging from funk and soul to jazz.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far, we have released two albums. The first, "Horror Vacui," was released in 2020. The album perfectly expresses the concept of the "fear of emptiness," which has always manifested in various artistic forms from painting to sculpture to architecture, utilizing the act of filling an entire surface of a work with finely detailed elements. Just as in Byzantine, Gothic, and Baroque art, the concept of Rock can also take shape through "decorative exuberance." After the release of the album, several things changed, especially concerning the band's lineup. We went from two wind instruments (sax and trombone) to one (sax), and the lead vocals changed from a female voice to a male voice. All of this clearly steered our sound in a different direction, which you can hear in our latest album, "What EEF?", released on June 7, 2024. The title is a subtle wordplay that, in pronunciation, resembles the question "What If?" Thus, "What EEF?" becomes an invitation to explore possibilities, to dream, and to wonder what could happen.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Certainly. We are already working on new songs, recording pre-productions in our rehearsal room. The composition process is always in motion and never stops, so we always try to ride the right wave for our inspirations.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

This summer we have several concerts around Italy. But now our focus is abroad, and we are working on it. We believe that our audience is mainly international, so we would love to perform live outside of Italy.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

As just mentioned above, our future plans are to promote our music worldwide. To do this, we need to work hard and be very dedicated.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find us on all major streaming platforms like Spotify, Deezer, etc., and on our social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube where there is plenty of material including live videos and more. For now, the only way to purchase a physical copy of our new album is to come to our concerts! But we are also working on making it available through other means.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We believe that musical exploration, originality, and total dedication in what we do are the elements that immediately strike the ear. Therefore, we would like someone listening to our album for the first time to perceive these qualities.
