Alternative rockers PEEL have a lot of single's, EPs and one debut album! New music is being worked on currently, with recent single's already released. The band wants to continue creating music, expanding their "peel universe" for all to enter. See what else the band discussed with us below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We kicked off our career early this millennium with a self-titled album released on Edel Records/Playground Music with songs such as “Natalie Somewhere”, “Breathe”, “Comes Down...OK” and “Neverending”. These songs got airplay all over the world, and the video for “Natalie Somewhere” made it to second place on MTV’s Top Nordic Charts, as well as the sales charts in Norway.
2008 saw the release of the dark, intense and almost heavy “Die in June EP”, which spawned singles such as “(Falling from)Grace”, “Die in June” and the pop anthem “Second Man on the Moon”.
The following years the band released a couple of singles: “Too Deep” which did well on German radio to such a degree that a re-release of “Natalie Somewhere” saw the light of day. These singles were followed up by “Given Time”.
In 2108 the band released the critically acclaimed and praised concept album “Ghosts and Shadows”, which made “album of the month” in Netherlands, and included several singles such as “Like Sand” and “(We Are) The Wheel”.
“End of summer EP”, was released in 2019. The EP merged the raw “kick you in the face” attitude from grunge rock with sweet and mesmerising electro-pop in true Peel “less-is-bore” spirit. The song “Boy with the Oxygen Mask” found its way to several playlists and a video was released for the song.
The single “Better off Alone” hit the streaming service and online music stores in autumn 2021, alongside a video/visualizer to the song.
Now Peel is finally back with two brand new songs: the melancholic big rock anthem “Someday / Someone” and the tractor riff driven “Love Phobia” with mighty sounding guitars, pounding drums and as always a strong melody.
Both tracks are already on heavy rotation on lots of playlists, and they are the first tracks released from the upcoming album “Big Sundown”.
Step into the peel universe and join the increasingly fan base of peel grims.
The band has been haunted with bad luck and drama enough to fill a cheesy rock documentary..hehe…With members coming and leaving and coming and…yeah, leaving…
Peel:
Founding member Pim on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, keys, programming
Seb on guitars and programming.
Founding member Holten on bass, vocals and programming.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
We were looking for something easy to remember, but at the same time meant something; Peel could be both the action (the verb to) to peel off something to get into the core as well as meaning a layer, a shell, armour, something that protects or hides.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Peel is based in Norway, just outside Oslo (the capital of Norway) We have never been a part of the local scene, always been the outsiders. And there are not so many Norwegian artists we care for ...And in fairness: I guess there are not many artists that care for us…hahaha. Norwegian audiences has a fondness for americana, roots, blues, plain rock and roll. And the phrase “less is more” is very much the guideline for most of the music here. That is why Peel’s credo is “Less is BORE”...hahaha…(that is of course not always true haha).
4. How would you describe your style?
I think that we have our very own style(of course…hehe). The songs and the melody is the focus. Maybe that differs us from more riff driven rock and metal bands? Our music is alt.rock, but we come from all kinds of genres, but the one genre that we all have in common is, strangely enough Hardrock and metal. But we are NOT a metal band. I think a mix tape from Peel contain Bee Gees, Beatles, ABBA, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Motorhead, Nirvana, Toto, Grieg, Bach, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, ELO, ….haha…We are just music geeks - and that is to be found in our music. Our concerts draw a wide audience; metalheads, emo’s, popfreaks, yeah, generally just music lovers from the age 18 - 75 years.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, we are currently working on a new album called “Big Sundown”, and have just released two songs to be featured on the album; “Someday / Someone” and “Love Phobia”.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We are playing a few shows, but our main focus these days is new music and is to finish our forthcoming album “Big Sundown” for (hopefully)release this autumn.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
To expand the peel universe and get more and more people to join in on the peel grim movement…hehe… I think this band is a healthy alternative to all the shit music out there. Our music is made from the heart and the soul and our goal and purpose for playing music is not fame or “tik fuck” followers. We are of course to be found on SoMe, but we try our best to use in a “sober” way. We want to touch and dig deeper. Release music and play for people that care for music, that care for lyrics…
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The big streaming services…check us out on Spotify. Our music can be bought in most online stores
Peel on Spotify
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That it felt sincere, real in such a way that it made you listen again….and again….and again 😀 I would really love it if people could feel about our music as I have done with a lot of music throughout the years; the feeling of belonging,..of not being alone.
