Deadly Virtues Talks of Album Debut, Touring Worldwide and Further Plans Ahead!

Metalheads' DEADLY VIRTUES have a debut album out now, with them in the process of writing towards their follow-up album. These guys have plans for playing shows all over the place, touring as well, wanting to keep their name and music heard far and wide. See what else the band talks about in regards to all of this below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Deadly Virtues was formed out of what originally started as a cover band. We met through personal training and throughout our time working together in the gym the topic of music and performing came up and the rest is history. We started getting together to practice songs for our set list. The concept was 80’s/90’s/2000’s metal cover songs ranging from AC/DC and White Snake, to Killswitch Engage and Atreyu. After rehearsing for some time, it was evident that we were struggling to find a rhythm section. During that time Mike started writing riffs and ideas that were influenced by songs and artists that he listened to and eventually those ideas turned into original songs. From there it was 1 to 3 to a complete 43 minute debut original album. Now we are out performing shows and producing content as a full fledged metal group.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Deadly Virtues was a name that came about during Covid when it was recognized that people were virtue signalling based on adherence to rules and restrictions over others. Core beliefs were compared and questioned to determine whose interests were more important. This eventually led to the name representing the dangers of embracing what may be perceived as good when in reality it is toxic or self-destructive to oneself.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based out of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The scene is very active with multiple different kinds of metal acts with a heavy bias towards hardcore artists. Lots of great venues both big and small depending upon what your act is capable of handling, with national touring acts frequently coming through town.  Any specific artists are hard to list, there’s quite a variety out here.

4. How would you describe your style?

It is a mixture of multiple metal genres that comes directly from our influences. Without question we are a metal group, but as far as sub-genre it is hard to say. We tend to range from 80’s style ballads to fast paced metalcore riffs and more. With such a broad range of influences, I don’t know if we will ever fit into a specific genre. Good music is good music. Once we were told we sound like a mixture of Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God, which is a huge compliment considering the major success and influence of those bands.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Our debut album “Decay of Society” was released May 31st, 2024. The album has a total of 11 tracks of completely original music. Our albums are meant to be listened to in numerical order to provide an emotional journey that covers the topic of the album itself. Expect hard hitting riffs and passages reminiscent of early 2000’s metal that compliment big, melodic choruses and 80’s style soloing honouring the greats who have come before us. “Decay of Society” will get your blood pumping and tears rolling through a 43 minute emotional journey that will ultimately result in a feeling of release and complete satisfaction.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are currently in the process of writing our second album. Our music is usually written as it comes, nothing is forced or manufactured to meet timelines or demand (A benefit of being a self managed artist). Music is an art, and we don’t want to produce good art, but great art. Our songs are written so that the instruments set the tone of the song before lyrics are even written, and usually the riff or instrumentals will set the tone for what the song is meant to be about based on our own struggles and experiences which cannot be forced, but have to happen naturally. Our music is meant to speak directly to our fans and those who listen to share memories through the emotional and spiritual connection that music offers. A way to reminisce, release anger, and share joy among each other. We are excited to have new material released within the next year or so.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently in the process of reaching out to set up contacts here in the US and abroad for festivals and events. We just finished playing in Las Vegas at Backstage Bar and Billiards for the Nevada Cannabis Awards Music Festival. Check out our website for more information on upcoming shows and events. We have been getting a lot of attention from festival promoters in Canada, so maybe you’ll see us there soon, eh?

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We are in this for the long haul. We have full intentions to keep this group going for the next 20+ years. Currently, we are in the process of submitting to metal festivals worldwide as well as considering what labels we would like to partner with, if any.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

For information about the band, our background, merchandise, and upcoming events, you can visit our website www.deadlyvirtues.com. We are also distributed on all major platforms from Spotify to iTunes and many others around the world.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Metal is a diverse and complex genre of music that can invoke a broad range of emotions when composed in a meaningful and intentional way. Deadly Virtues as a band aims to provide our listeners and fans with this broad range of music that will allow them to emotionally connect and relate to the root messages of each of our songs that we produce and above all else, have fun doing so.
