Post metal rockers EXXASENS has not one but a total of eight albums, with their latest album "Infinitum" coming out real soon! The band even has plans to tour come next summer, with a lot else in the works, and so much more in-store too! The band talks of their album, touring plans and more.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
EXXASENS started as a solo project in 2007, initially as an outlet for experimenting with instrumental music, inspired by metal, space exploration and science fiction. In 2011, I formed the first live band with members of the post-hardcore/metal band PLAYMOTIVE, to support the release of our third album, "Eleven Miles", and following our signing with Aloud Music. In 2016, the project went on hiatus, but we made a comeback in 2019. Finally, in 2023, the band was restructured with new members, and we continue to evolve our sound today as a four-piece, blending post-rock, prog-rock, and post-metal elements.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name "EXXASENS" was inspired by the desire to explore the concept of "ex-sense" or going beyond human perception, reflecting the band's themes of space, discovery, and introspection.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in Barcelona, Spain. The local scene here is diverse, with a strong presence of experimental and alternative rock bands. We highly recommend checking out Lume! and Syberia, two bands that are part of the vibrant post-rock community in Barcelona.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is a blend of post-rock, progressive rock, and post-metal, often accompanied by cinematic soundscapes. We focus on creating atmospheric and emotional instrumental music, using layers of guitars and synths to build epic and immersive sound journeys.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
EXXASENS has released eight albums to date, with the latest, "INFINITUM", coming out in November 2024. Over the years, there has been a clear progression in our sound, moving from a more traditional post-rock base to incorporating elements of progressive rock and, most recently, post-metal.
Our early releases were focused on atmospheric and melodic compositions, drawing heavily from space-themed soundscapes and cinematic influences. As the project evolved, our music has grown heavier and more complex, with a greater emphasis on dynamics, rhythm changes, and intricate arrangements. This shift has led us to explore the realms of progressive metal, making our recent work more intense and powerful, while still maintaining the emotional core and immersive qualities that have always defined EXXASENS. Listeners can expect an epic journey through instrumental landscapes, with each album offering something new, from soaring melodies to heavy, cathartic crescendos. Our latest album, "INFINITUM," is a culmination of this evolution, blending the atmospheric beauty of our earlier works with the heavier, more progressive direction we've been heading towards.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, we are about to release "INFINITUM", which is our most ambitious album to date. It incorporates more post-metal elements, giving the music a heavier, more powerful edge while maintaining the spacey, melodic core that defines EXXASENS.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We are currently planning a European tour for May/June 2025, where we’ll be presenting the new album live. We’re especially excited to perform in some special fest as part of this tour.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
In the immediate future, we’re focused on the release of our new album, "INFINITUM", and our 2025 European tour to promote it. Beyond that, we’re excited to announce that the album will also be part of the soundtrack for an Amazon production set to be released next year, titled "Punto Nemo". This is a major project with well-known actors and will be promoted globally. Looking ahead, we’re constantly working on new music and exploring ways to expand our sound. We’re also aiming to collaborate with other artists and potentially venture into more audiovisual projects, following our work with "Punto Nemo." The future looks exciting, and we’re eager to share what’s next with our fans.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to our music on all major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. Our merch and physical releases are available on Bandcamp and our official website: https://exxasens.com.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We’d like listeners to feel like they’ve been taken on a journey—whether it’s through space, emotions, or imagination. Our goal is to create music that resonates deeply and offers an immersive, almost cinematic experience.
