Suicidal Tendencies out of California have been doing their thing since 1980! Frontman Mike Muir has has the band go through some line-up changes over the years, Muir being the only original remaining member of the band. Their current line-up includes vocalist Mike Muir, guitarists Dean Pleasants and Ben Weinman, bassist Tye Trujillo and drummer Jay Weinberg. Since their formation the band has gone to play shows, tour, release music and repeat it time and time again. Most recent though would have the band announce some shows local to California, playing two back to back showcases in Orange County at the Garden Amp! A mini outdoor amphitheater that would hold both back to back nights with these guys headlining both sold out shows!
Having grabbed tickets for the Saturday night “punk night”, would be a crowd involving a mix of kids, teens, adults young and old, and a majority being a mix of men and women, because Friday night’s show didn’t have many women so fans had said, who had attended both nights.
Saturday night would be packed, bringing in the crowd to pack in the whole place, first band would be Skullcrack, who I had seen previously not that long ago, but tonight their performance would be just as entertaining. Bassist would goof off yet again, running into the audience whilst playing his bass, and wearing a “skullcrack” mask, with other moments having the bassist drinking beer straight out of his own shoe! Their set captured that same energy as the other show had, keeping the hype up and fun.
SKULLCRACK:
Following these guys would be an act called Ottto, whose performance was fun, more rock punk, capturing a fast paced edge, that had the audience creating some movement, with the mosh pit opening up on and off, with the audience cheering the band on. They created an essence that had a fun outgoing energy that would never give up, it was endless really. Surely an act that is one to be seen again.
OTTTO:
Next up would be one called Damnage, and they were a solid three piece act, whose togetherness brought the energy more so than the previous acts. They kept the rock vibes alive, having the audience clapping their hands, nodding their heads, to picking up in the pit! This three piece knew how to work it, and the music kept it flavorful and fun.
DAMNAGE:
Headlining would be of course Suicidal Tendencies and they went on to play a little over an hour long set, vocalist Muir chatting on and off during it. But it kept the audience into it, the mosh pit being never ending from start to finish. The crowd surfers, stage divers, it was all chaos. Plus to top it off it was a chilly evening with the floor damp due to the brief drizzle that happened beforehand but that didn’t stop the chaos from overflowing. It was just that though, chaos from every which way possible, people in the mosh pit kept pushing one another, it got pushed in every which way possible. Down to the band having not one but two wall of death’s happen, that kept the crowd on their feet at all costs! Then to top it off, the band had the audience crawl onto the stage, singing and dancing along during the finale numbers it was flawless. Simply an unforgettable evening to remember.
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES:
It was how it went down, and it ended up being nothing but fun times for all there. Many getting bumped around, knocked about or falling down, it was total fun, chaos, and memorable for all who bear witnessed to it unfold.
