This past summer it was announced that the Devastation On The Nation Tour 2024 edition would be returning, for it’s seventh year! This time around it was going to have headliners Morbid Angel, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they would be replaced with I Am Morbid, featuring members of Morbid Angel’s past. Other acts following them would include Suffocation, Uada, Mortiferum, Fulci, and Knoll. Kicking off in the fall in mid-November, this tour would run for about a month, across the U.S.A. Making a stop in Los Angeles, California at The Belasco Theater, where the show would not be sold out, with plenty of tickets still available.
Having gotten to the venue late that Tuesday evening November 26th, fans were slowly aligned up outside the venue, in the parking lot, all heading inside a little after 8PM. The third act up would be Uada, whose style would be melodic with black metal, creating a style that was intense yet very heavy, during a lot of their song’s performances. Some of the songs played included such as “Natus Eclipism”, “Cult of the Dying Sun”, and “Black Autumn, White Spring”, to name off a few. The crowd was into them, bobbing their heads, headbanging right out, to others just taking it all in, it was a very entertaining bunch.
Following them would be death metal act Suffocation, with their extensive set of getting everyone into the groove of it all. The mosh pit was opened up, that no one was standing still. The whole floor was like a wave, every which way it was endless madness. Having gotten the VIP seating arrangements upstairs in the balcony, made viewing their set much more vivid and alive. Throughout their set it made the crowd energetic through and through, each song played kept that energy endless. The band themselves kept the angst up, never taking a break, but giving it their all that it made the whole experience flawless.
SUFFOCATION:
Headlining the evening away would be I Am Morbid, another death metal band who had formed back in 2016, by bassist/vocalist David Vincent, and drummer Tim Yeung, both former members of Morbid Angel, so their thing is that they play Morbid Angel material, but only from their early catalog of material, such as albums like Altars of Madness (1989), Blessed Are the Sick (1991) Covenant (1993) and Domination (1995). So tonight’s performance was lots of fun; from the start of the set around close to 10:30PM til the next hour wrapping up around 11:30PM, their set was non-stop chaotic. The mosh pit slowly built itself up, then during the middle of the band’s set, it kept building more and more, that everyone was just as active as they were during the other band’s sets. Loads of crowd surfers being lift into the sky, bumping into security, others falling face first, with others getting shoved into one another, that they fell on their backsides one way or another. It was impressive to see how much momentum was given during the band’s performance, from both the crowd and the band, that even the frontman David Vincent couldn’t get enough of it all.
I AM MORBID:
All in all, it was a night of endlessness, that felt powerful yet tiresome. Literally having running back and forth from top to bottom, it was worth it. Seeing Suffocation a few times by now, and I Am Morbid for my first time experience, both acts brought it, making everyone there cheer and shout about it.
