Pop duo DAVVN is a pop punk act whose time together shares a bit of a love story! With that said, the they have gone on to release quite a bit of songs, an EP, with an all new song and yet another EP out sometime this year! This duo does the chatting with us about themselves, music, and want to get out there, doing more with music, show playing, and spreading word of themselves far and wide!
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I think I have always had a fascination with the sunset and sunrises - I always felt like those visuals were the perfect background for the kind of music we wanted to make. The two v’s I thought was an interesting artistic choice and it’s definitely something we always have to point out when telling someone how to find us online - I also love the idea that the crowd can put up two peace signs to make the “vv” at our shows!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We’ve always loved pop-punk, and it really speaks to us. It’s a blend of high-energy, catchy tunes, and raw, emotional lyrics, which is exactly what we’ve always been drawn to. Plus, the early 2000s artists like Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, and Hilary Duff were huge influences. We love the nostalgia that pop-punk brings and the energy that comes with it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Mike grew up in Boston, and we met there at Tufts where we went to school. We dated for a while before starting to make music together! We'd both been on a hiatus from making music but working together just felt like an inevitable thing.
4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based in Nashville now! The music scene here is full of talent and so inspiring. The energy is amazing, and there’s always something happening. As for local bands, we’d definitely recommend checking out people like John Harvie, Jack the Underdog, or our friends who have artist projects - Paige Keiner and Annie Scherer.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I think we can really find inspiration from just about anything. Whether it’s TV or movies, or things that happen to us in real life. I definitely like writing songs with a bit of a double meaning and some tongue-in-cheek lyrics in there too. I think usually for us the songs that people relate to the best are the ones based on something that actually happened to us. I think that’s when the emotions are at their best and you can really draw from it when you’re writing or performing it.
6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Our songs are about a lot of things – complicated friendships, growing pains, love, and heartbreak. We often write about personal experiences and how they shape us. The theme of “growing up” and nostalgia is something that resonates with a lot of our listeners.
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
We do! It’s a really fun process that involves a lot of collaboration. We write together, often starting with a riff or melody and then building from there. We’ve written songs with friends and producers like John Townsend and Andrew Gomez. It’s always a bit of a mix between reflecting on personal experiences and just letting creativity flow when we’re in the studio.
8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve released a bunch of songs and a debut EP called "brb ttyl". Each song has its own vibe, but overall, people can expect raw, honest lyrics with a mix of pop-punk, emo, and alternative influences. The energy is high, but there’s also a lot of emotional depth. We love making songs that people can sing along to, but that also make them feel something.
9. Do you have any new music in the works?
We’re super excited for what’s coming up! Our next song "any other girl" drops on Feb 7th and we think it's one of our best songs yet. We’ve also been writing and recording new songs, and we’re gearing up for a big 2025. There are definitely more songs in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share them with everyone. Keep an eye out for another EP/ Album before the year's over :)
10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We’re hoping to be out playing more shows than ever in 2025! We would love to play festivals as well. Planning a Midwest run for around May and maybe West coast or East coast after that :)
11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
One year from now, the dream would be for us to be on a national or European tour, or out playing festivals! It feels like we’ve made some huge progress over the past year, and I hope that we can carry that even further next year.
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to us on all streaming platforms, like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube! Our merch and all other info is at davvn.com!
Best,
Mike & McCall
