Kill the Ache's Revan Talks of Creavitivity with Music, Growth and Paying It Forward!

One man band KILL THE ACHE is run by Revan Darth, he being the sole person behind it all. He takes the time to talk with us, about the music, releases thus far, debut album expected soon, and much else in-store for the future!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name actually is a Currents reference, very seldom do I find song names that feel like band names, but Kill the Ache felt perfect and aligned within my lyrical themes. I can’t thank them enough for the idea.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I don’t really consider Genre when writing, as you’ll see in my new track Thirteen (Jan 23rd 2025 release). I feel like pinning oneself down to a genre can really limit your creativity. The idea that funk or metal or folk shouldn’t be intertwined is a foolish one.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I, Revan, am the only member and perform all instrumental parts currently. As of this writing, there are no plans to expand writing or performance credits.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Kill the Ache is based out of Dallas Texas, as far as locals who kill it, Oh, Sleeper has been one of my favorites since they came on the scene. Fit for a King, dispositions. Lots of great locals. As far as the live scene, it’s really died off since pre-covid.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Anything, everything. Personal struggles, existential struggles. I often try to view myself in someone else's shoes. For example, I have a future track that was inspired by an individual giving into dementia. But I do have to say writing spells come and go.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

I do not like to disclose specific themes within the tracks. I want everyone to have their own perception and to interpret as they see fit, in a way that speaks to them.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

I do write all of my own songs, of course there will be a cover or two eventually. As far as the writing process goes, it changes. Sometimes I will be playing or practicing and get an idea that I can expand on. From there, often I’ll record the part, fill out some basic background parts and expand. If its a guitar riff I’ll see where it wants me to go. What feels right. If its a drum beat, I’ll lay it down and try to find either a bass or guitar progression to compliment. This is an imperfect process and often requires a lot of refining until I feel the instruments compliment one another. Usually for me lyrics are after rhythm sections but before Lead or harmonies. This is without going into much depth in carving the right lyrics.

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

The current list of released and scheduled to be released tracks are as follows:

Echoes (October 31st)
Subdermal (December 6th)
Thirteen (upcoming January 23rd)
Save Me (upcoming February 27th)

I do intend to release between 4 and 6 new tracks this year before a debut album early next year.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

I have a considerable amount of music that is either done or very nearly done.

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Nothing at the moment, focused on socials, growing listeners and engagement. As time progresses I am sure this may change, but at the moment that is what I am focusing on.

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

I intend to be releasing for the unforeseeable future. Writing what I feel best encapsulates and resonates with the human condition. I want to show those in pain that it can end. I want everyone to know that in those moments where they feel completely and utterly alone, they are not. Someone has been there before. Much like the bands that inspired me. I want to pay it forward.
