Synth-pop act SOFTWAVE have a third album underway, saying that it will be simpler. Show playing is expected for this year, the band jut wanting to strive to improve themselves and their music creativity. The band discusses their music and show playing.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We met at an electronic club in Copenhagen back in 2007. Jerry has always been creative making his own sounds using several devices. But first when he met Catrine who had a hidden gem as a talented singer and performer, they suddenly discovered a new territory they both never imagine they would enter.
Encouraged by a mutual friend, they established SoftWave in February 2014. Designed their logo, website and SoMe platforms plus started to get to know the music industry and how the music distribution worked. After producing their debut EP “Together Alone” in their self-build studio they got easily noticed by radio stations in Denmark and overseas. After a few years of success with chart placements around the world, they had their first shows outside Denmark was in 2017 (UK) and 2018 (UK, Belgium). This was the beginning of a brighter future for SoftWave as they met former Human League and Visage members to a VIP screening release in Soho London.
2019 was the year their debut album “Game On” was released digitally, on CD and vinyl. SoftWave had their biggest audience of 800 when guesting the Danish legendary TV-reviewer within gaming, cartoons and fantasy at Bremen Teater (DK). Even the Danish National Radio DR-P4 aired the hit single “Something is Missing” several times which also got a favourite by OMD (UK) who SoftWave supported to sold-out concerts in Scandinavia (2020). In 2021 SoftWave was invited by Cherry Red Records (UK) to do two remixes for Erasure’s Andy Bell, a vinyl that ended up on UK OFFICIAL VINYL CHARTS in great company of Vince Clarke, Bronski Beat, Matt Pop and more. In 2022 SoftWave asked Andy Bell’s solo project collaborator Barney Ashton-Bullock to feature their first Christmas single “Will It Ever Be Christmas Again”. Another remix request was sent to SoftWave by Cherry Red Records on behalf of Cicero, Pet Shop Boys’ former signed artist on their label Spaghetti Recordings. Cicero’s favourite remix of the release was “Love is Everywhere – SoftWave Remix” that gained worldwide exposure.
The release of their 2nd album “things we’ve done” was self-released (October 13, 2023) followed by a CD released by the German label Electro-Shock-Records. From fan-support via a Kickstarter-project SoftWave finally managed to release the album on vinyl (June 22, 2024). The album was selected by the biggest music award in Denmark (GAFFA-PRISEN 2024) who also gave it a 4-star review (GAFFA.dk). The album won silver as BEST INTERNATIONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR (ISSA AWARDS, Atlanta, US) and recently SoftWave was nominated as BEST ELECTRO ACT by Radio Wigwam Awards 2025. Perfect timing for us to return to the country where it all started.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
“Soft” = personality of Catrine
“Wave” = personality of Jerry
We decided to combine these two words because SoftWave can’t exists without the two personalities.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in Denmark. Here the synth-pop scene is poorly small. Therefore our chances are better in the UK, US, Sweden, Spain and other European countries. We are not aware of any local bands that produce synth-pop the way we do. But we could recommend Nordstrøm.
4. How would you describe your style?
Uplifting and happy classic synth-pop, influenced and inspired by the English synth-pop from the 80s.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We always strive to improve for each release. Next album will definitely be simpler.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are currently working on our 3rd album with no deadlines. Things get easier per release but this time we don’t want to rush it blinded by deadlines. We want to surrender ourselves to the creativity flow of the production. The best part needs dedication and time to become a great result.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Yes. We have been invited to play the Radio Wigwam Pre-Awards Party in London January 22. The day after we will attend the Award as guest-nominees.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We have been contacted by several promoters from the UK lately, so we expect to visit the UK more than once in 2025. We’re also planning other shows in Denmark and other countries. We hope to get a manager who can help us get to the next level in our career. Follow us here: www.softwavemusic.com.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Our music is created to make you feel good. If you do not feel anything when listening, we have failed. Therefore we encouraged to go see us live. There you’ll get the ultimate music experience.
