Metalcore band NEXT DOOR TO HEAVEN have two album's out, with a new single out real soon! No show playing for now, because all new music is expected to be released soon! The band's discussion with us, talks of their music, influences, song writing process, namesake, and history!
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Our name came to our minds really unexpectedly. We came up with the idea to do it the opposite way cause everybody wants to name their bands like "Hell Gates" or something :) This is why we found that "Next Door To Heaven" is going to be a perfect name for a metal band and no one will be able to guess. :)
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Metalcore means no boundaries. This is it. If you add some prog to it - that's even better.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Me and Gene were married before founding the band, though we both were into music since we were kids.
4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in LA. There is almost no core scene here unfortunately. But we can recommend "Shadow Moses". They are good, we played with them once.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
To be honest with you there isn't much inspiration for us in music among other musicians. Life experience, people that we know, nature - they inspire us the most. We are often asked about our influences in music but the thing is - we only listen to different genres and artists but no one of us was ever a die hard fan of anything or anyone.
6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
They are about love and hate, about honesty and betrayal, life and death and everything beyond it. You can find something personal in our songs.
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Yes, we do. Gene does all the musical stuff and I do lyrics and vocal melodies. Then we sit together and discuss if we are both happy about everything or we need to change something.
8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We've released 2 albums and a few singles. Our last release is called "Colors" and it's a very energetic and inspiring song!
9. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes. We're working on a new single. Something a bit heavier than our previous couple of works.
10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We actually played a lot in 2024 but right now as we mentioned earlier we're working on new material after which we'll get back to playing live.
11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
"Try to take over the world."
