Alura Talks of Newest Single, Pushing the Boundaries with Music Creativity and Growth!

Las Vegas' ALURA is a hard rockin, heavy metal band, whose time together thus far, has lead them to release a debut album, couple of EP's, with them already writing all new material! In fact, they have just released a new single called "Morningstar" out now! The band talks about their releases, and the future planned.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea came from an old 1940’s movie. It was the name of a temptress. It wasn’t that great of a movie but the name we got from it was pretty cool. We toyed around with several names after the initial name of the band didn’t seem to align with our sound anymore. Alura just seemed to fit the best and ended up being the one we loved the most.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We started playing rock & metal because it's what we all grew up listening to. While we are influenced by all types of music, personally, I love the rawness, the aggression and the passion that comes through in this genre. Not to say that this isn’t possible with every other genre, but I do feel like the rock & metal world really harnesses those 3 things in the best way. The intensity of it all just keeps you coming back for more.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself (Taylor) and my brother grew up playing music together. We met Drew when he recorded some songs for the original version of the band. He liked what they were doing and decided to join in. Ryan was finally added to the fold after we lost a bass player with our old band and we met him by playing shows with his old band.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based out of Las Vegas, NV. We’ve got a great music scene out here. There’s a budding scene of new music venues and promoters coming up as the city continues to grow. There’s lots of great bands coming up in Vegas. Some of my favorites are Twist Off!, Worseforwear, Annelida, Pure, and Erasermouth to name a few.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Real life situations that happen in my own life, mostly. I get a lot of inspiration lately because life is so colorful on a regular basis. I have written some songs about TV shows and themes based around movies but all of them end up being just big metaphors for things that actually happened in my own life.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

I’ve written about everything from love, self reflection, dealing with anxiety, modern dating, self empowerment, you name it. I try not to follow a specific theme too closely to keep things interesting.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

I (Taylor) write the lyrics and melodies on my own and bring them to Drew. Most of the time he’s already written 90% of the song and we try to build the rest together to make it more cohesive and way more tighter. We write and record it all in Drew’s garage and get the final ideas down and then send it off to our friend Mike Sahm to put the final touches on it all. We’ve been writing like this for 10+ years now and it’s been great to grow together as songwriters.

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve put out one album and a couple EP’s as of now. I’d say expect the unexpected. We like to regularly switch things up and bring new things to the table and push ourselves to try new things. But at the end of the day, it will all fall under the Alura sound.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! We are always writing. We’ve been sitting on a lot of music for a while and we’re eager to put it all out. However, we did just drop a brand new single called “Morningstar” on March 5th via Out of Line Music. It’s a song about self empowerment and not letting anyone or anything stand in the way of your own happiness.

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

As of now we just have one show coming up with Sevendust in Las Vegas on April 26th. They’re legends and we are so honored to play with those guys. We’ll be playing more shows throughout the year though.

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We obviously would like to continue to grow and keep pushing the boundaries of what we think is possible. We want to put out as much music as possible this year, tour more and spread our music as far as we possibly can. I think we’re on track to do that.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
