Being noted as never ever getting the chance to catch them live, thrash metal titans Warbringer out of Oxnard, California, would form in 2004, going on to release seven full-length albums, tour relentlessly, and be a part of the late 2000’s, early 2010’s of the “thrash metal revival” scene. Thus, we are here now and have since seen them a few times already, including tonight of all night’s it being a holiday the one and only St. Patrick's Day! They decided to play not just a holiday show, but one as a pre-tour, album release show, to collide with the release of their seventh full-length album to date “Wrath and Ruin”, released this St. Patrick’s Day weekend! This show would lead into their headlining tour for this album, having them heading out on the road from here all the way into the summer! With that, the band decided to play in their home town of Oxnard at a place called Mrs. Olson’s restaurant, which is a breakfast and lunch restaurant, but at night it holds some live events such as concerts. Tonight’s was something special!
Having arrived to the venue rather late, catching the last two bands, one being Anubis, and headliner’s Warbringer, Anubis had some minor technical difficulties. But once those were resolved for the better, things went smoothly. The band would play featuring not one but two vocalists, one doing clean vocals and the other doing harsh vocals. The collab sounding not bad, it made the melodic, thrashy sound, create a more intensity than it should have, making their music be elaborate yet fun. A minor mosh pit was formed by one person, with others following through later on during other moments of the band’s performance. With the vocalists jumping onto the floor to join in with some moshing action, keeping the crowd highly enthusiastic. Anubis was an act that created a rather fun never ending atmosphere that kept the energy enlightened through and through.
ANUBIS:
Up next would be headliner’s Warbringer, everyone gathering from the outdoor patio with the fire pit, to others forming from all sides. Lots heading to the front of the stage, with everyone else falling back, because once things kicked off, there was no stopping. The band would go on to play such songs as “Remain Violent”, “Severed Reality”, “Hunter-Seeker”, “Firepower Kills”, and “Total War” the ultimate closer of the evening! A lot of these tracks caused some stage dive action, with the mosh pit opening up on and off, starting slow then it built upwards, creating a non-stop fun filled cyclone. During the final song of the evening, the mosh pit got pretty intensely, causing quite a riot, that everyone was being pushed this way and that way, having one individual hitting the floor, literally, falling upon their back, causing them to jolt their neck, and hit their head, having them not feel to well afterwards, but that is the way of the mosh pit, you go in, you can get hurt but still have fun!
WARBRINGER:
Overall this St. Patrick’s Day will be one for the books, having this night be an intimate experience, that resulted in some injuries, but it was so worth it, the experience alone, being nothing but fun filled yet over-joyous to all there.
