Dejected Discusses Music and the Plans for the Future!

Heavy metal band DEJECTED formed just a few years ago in 2021, with already five single's under their belts, streaming across various music services, with more material set for this year alone! The band discusses their music and furthering plans ahead!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We originally went back and forth between a couple of names. One day during a practice session, our bass player Kevin said he was feeling dejected. Once we found the definition of the word, we found that we all resonated with its deeper meaning.

2.  Why did you want to play this genre?

Metal was a great source of inspiration and comfort through our formative years. During the initial formation of the band, we found ourselves longing to explore our darker sides. It all began to fall into place once our singer Adam showed his talent and potential when it came to heavy vocals.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our drummer Kyle and singer Adam were friends prior to the bands formation; Kevin was introduced to Adam and Kyle who formed the initial stages of Dejected. Hammer became a member in 2023.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Dejected is based in Wonder Lake, Illinois. We have become huge fans and friends of other local acts such as Plethera, MazeGarden, and Stolen Sun.

5.  Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We write to express the negative emotions experienced during traumatic life events. We find that the raw emotion creates lasting and authentic connections not only between the band members but between the band and fans as well.

6.  What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

We discuss mental health, betrayal, the warning signs of abusive relationships, and the dark sides of different personalities.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

We do write our own songs. It all depends on where the songwriting process occurs. Sometimes one of us will come to the band with either a riff or lyrics and sometimes it happens as a group effort. The greatest part of Dejected’s music is the collaboration and sense of brotherhood we experience when we write.

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have five singles out on all streaming platforms with a sixth planned for April 2025. Listeners can expect a wide range of emotions: sometimes soft choir like singing and other times with growls from the pits of hell.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes we do. Our song Altered is a different direction than we have gone previously. Not only lower in tuning, but deeper in lyrical content and overall mood.

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Nothing set in stone at the moment, but we are making plans for more shows in 2025!

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Right now we’re focusing on generating more content to extend the reach of our name and grow our fan base. In the next couple of years we would like to release our first album and potentially plan a Midwest tour.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on all streaming platforms, keep an eye out for Dejected merch coming soon!
