Metal band RELEASE THE CAPTIVE has had some line-up changes, music changes, but always remained within the metal genre. An EP, singles, and a follow-up EP is expected to be released, with some shows lined-up as well. The band discussed all of this stuff right below.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name comes from the idea of being held captive by one’s body, mind or others and finding a way to be released through music. We touch on the topics of mental struggles to political frustration but also of loss and love with our songs “Elm Valley” and “Lost in the Moment”.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The metal genre is evolving every day and within the metal genre we can stay true to ourselves on how we want to write, what we want to talk about, or just have fun with it. It usually starts with a riff, then snowballs into full demos made by the bands guitarist Adam Delgado. Then Vocalist, Tre Ledesma adds lyrics and melody. Carlos Delgado and Danny Treviño follow suite and add their own take to the songs which then take on a new form.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Adam and Carlos Delgado are the original members, bringing in Tre Ledesma from a Craigslist ad they have made and Danny Treviño was brought in through a Facebook group after the band was ready to come back from hiatus.
4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based out of Austin, Tx, the music scene is big here with venues all the place. Some bands we love playing with are Astrixion, Honor Me, Cloud Anchor, Top Down, Inside the Hollow, Becoming Silence, and Aaerial. All have a unique sound that is definitely worth a listen.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We all have our own individual reason of why we wanted to create music, but through Release the Captive we can create something that’s above us. Through our music we hope to connect with others in one way or another. In our current discography we have one EP and nine singles and right now we have one song ready to go but we want to make sure that we release it right and give it all that we can. We’re extremely excited for this release and the new EP we’ve been creating.
6. Would you say your music style has changed since your formation?
We’ve always said we were an Alternative Metal band and that’s still true. However, the next batches of songs take from genres such as Nu-Metal, Djent, Progressive Metalcore, hip hop, and Thrash.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We’re on our two shows a month grind and have been to all of the major city’s in Texas. Dallas, Houston, and Austin of course. Our next show we’ll be in San Antonio at The Starlighter to support From the Tides and With Hope Intact on their Never Making it Out Tour on April 11th 2025. It’s been a while since we’ve played in San Antonio so we’re really excited to be back. In May, we have a couple offers but can’t say at this moment since they haven’t been announced yet but just know either of them may be with big touring bands with hundreds of thousands of listeners.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
As for what the future hold for us, right now we’re pretty content with the show grind and getting our name in peoples minds. Soon we’ll have some new music and merch going and hopefully be able to tour to support it. For sure Texas but maybe we’ll branch out to Louisiana, Colorado, Florida.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The best way to support us is coming out to a show and buying merch from us directly or going through our Band Camp. We have all of our music on all major streaming platforms so take your pick and follow us on Facebook and instagram for when our next show is! @releasethecaptiveband we hope to see you there!
