Punks THE LOWCOCKS have released two set's, two full-length album's and two EP releases. with all new music for the next few months! Some show plans are set as well for the next few months too! The band says much about all of this right below!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The Lowcocks have technically been playing together since 2017…but it all started with a Craigslist ad. Both Ryan (guitar) and Annie (vocals) were looking for a project, and responded to the same ad asking for people interested in forming a punk band. Looking back, it feels almost like the old days, when musicians would connect through newspapers and end up creating magic.
Like so many others, Covid killed the band’s momentum; the pandemic forced us to take time off to prioritize health, our families, and really wrestle with life. During this time, Ryan was connected with our bassist, Nick, by a bartender at his neighborhood bar; when our drummer dropped out due to health concerns, Nick brought in a drummer he’d played with in Bay City, Zac - and our current lineup was born.
Although we were not really active for a few years, lots of songs came out of down time, which allowed us to come back strong and hit the ground running with our album Contender.
We’ve been writing and performing together for the past four years and having a great time doing it - and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Ryan and I were drinking in his attic, throwing names down on a whiteboard, but nothing was really hitting right. In the midst of this PBR-fueled brainstorm, he brought up a guy he’d played beer league hockey with, who’d gotten a tattoo of a rooster hanging low by knee “so he could say his cock was hanging low.” As a female fronted band who loves a good dick joke, we couldn’t resist - and so, The Lowcocks was born. Whether we’ll get matching tattoos at some point…well, that remains to be seen.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Our band is based in Detroit, MI, where the music scene is small but mighty - we are known for Motown, after all! The scene here feels like a community more than anything - we all know each other and support each other, no matter the genre, and we have some truly awesome punk, metal, and hardcore bands we love.
Right now our favorites in the scene are the Cult of SpaceSkull, Hayley and the Crushers, Detroit 442, and SNAFU.
4. How would you describe your style?
In a word, punk. In more than one word - we are raw Detroit punk with a bit of hardcore post-punk presence. We’ve got melodies that get stuck in your head, bass lines that defy gravity, and nonstop energy - but all with enough tongue in cheek attitude to avoid taking ourselves too seriously. We’ve been described as “all heart, no filter” and “like an after show party in a dirty alley - real, loud, flawed, and brilliant.” We’re a little bit punk, a little bit thrash, a little bit hardcore, and all chaos. Experiencing is believing!
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
The Lowcocks have released two full length albums and 2 EPs. Our most recent album, Contender, was released in October 2024; the newest single, MayDay, is the first release from The Lowcocks’ upcoming “Forgotten” EP, scheduled for full release in June 2025. Fans can expect love, anger, and reckless abandon that channels and challenges the punk genre. The front woman's guttural screech impeccably contrasting with tight melodies in a blast of sound you won’t be able to stop singing. Infectious, political, and just plain fun - with hooks to match, like the best mosh pit you’ve ever been in with some cheeky lyrics to make you smile and scream along.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are in the process of releasing new songs this spring, all as part of our upcoming “Forgotten” EP, scheduled for full release on June 17th 2025. The first single we dropped was “MayDay” in March, written in response to police crackdowns on student protests. Depending on publishing date, our single release schedule is as follows:
• April 17th - single release #2 - "(close only counts in) Horseshoes and Hand Grenades"
• May 20th - single release #3 - "The Forgotten"
• June 17 - full EP is released along with fourth song, cover of "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
The Lowcocks have played with bands big and small, including national acts The Exploited, The Casualties, Total Chaos, GBH, Strung Out, Anti-Flag, Koffin Kats, and The Suicide Machines, to name a few. We have done limited tours around the Midwest and are currently booking shows for summer and fall 2025.
A few upcoming dates we’re excited about:
April 26th - Corktown Music Festival in Detroit, MI
June 14th - Cosmo Joe’s Atomic Lounge in Dayton, OH
July 26th - Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn (Indianapolis)
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Becoming world famous superstars, obviously. We can’t wait to be best friends with Taylor and Sabrina, jet setting around the world to the next glitterati gathering, sipping champagne and looking down on the little people. No, not really. We want to keep making cool music, meeting new people, and getting a chance to travel around and be a real part of our community.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The Lowcocks’ music is on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or wherever finer music is enjoyed; digital purchases are also available. Purchases of physical media, including CD's, vinyl, and merch can be made from our website, www.TheLowcocks.com.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That The Lowcocks are awesome and I want to buy all their music. :D That we can get mad and have fun at the same time. That punk isn’t dead (but we can kill it).
