PERSEIDE Discusses Making Music and So Wanting to Play It Loud and Live!
Alternative metal rockers PERSEIDE have two EP releases, and their debut album "The Only Thing". New music is in the works at the current time, with an EP likely to appear soon afterwards. The band hopes to play live really soon, because it's what they wanted besides creating music is playing it live! More discussion is said about this band if not even more than that!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Julien (voice / rhythm guitar): Everything started with four teenagers that wanted to start a rock band in 2001. We were in high school and were big music fans. We created the band almost 20 years ago!!! But despite all the difficulties in such time, the band still stands today: we have aged and every member has followed his own path (some had kids and everyone works in a different sector), but the passion is still the same, and the band is keeping us together to make the music we love and to share happiness with people that want to make a part of their road with us.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Perséide is the French name for the shooting stars that appear in France mid-august. They result from the Earth crossing the tail of the constellation of Perseus. In French, these shooting stars are called “les larmes du martyre de Saint-Laurent” (“tears of Saint-Laurent’s martyr”). As we known each other in childhood in a town called Saint-Laurent, and as we were astronomy fans, we decided to call the band after this awesome story.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is located in a town in France called Lyon. It’s the second biggest city in France, so the music scene is very rich and varied. Every music style is represented and it’s very interesting for a rock/metal band, because there are a lot of opportunities to play live, with many very talented bands that we would recommended to you: you could give an ear to some bands like In Balance, Stereotypical Working Class, and The Amsterdam Red Light District.
4. How would you describe your style?
It has always been difficult for us to describe our music style, because we really listen to a lot of influences. Personally, I came into metal music with classic bands like Metallica or Slayer, then I went to a “metalcore phase” (as every teenager ) and now I have a more various taste today. Adrien (lead guitar) was educated with progressive metal and Guillaume (bass) is a big nu metal fan! As for Anthony (drums), he’s into electro music and that’s why he loves to kick his bass drum so much!!! In total, this diversity is strength and we would describe our style as modern metal, ranging from pop to metalcore, with catchy synths and old school guitars: Perséide will remind you of your adolescence and that’s what we love!!!
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We really had a special path as a music band… Everything started really quick when we started to play together: we did a lot of gigs, had the chance to play live with huge bands like Soilwork, Cancer Bats, Protest The Hero… and we recorded two EP’s. But life did his job and we had to decrease the band’s activities due to our personal lives… I had to work hard for my professional career, Anthony traveled the world and Guillaume built his family. As for Adrien, he took advantage of it to work on his other music project. Almost ten years later, when life gave us the time to reunite each other to live our passion again, we decided to record our first album: “The Only Thing”. Because music is the only thing that can give you such emotions. This album is a declaration of love to rock music: you’ll find heavy riffs, scream parts, clean voices, guitar solos… Everything that makes us feel the music, and that we want to share with the people that feel it too.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We do. Our first album is just out but it has given us the inspiration to write new material and share new creations with the public. An EP is almost written, and we will go back in the studio really soon to record new songs. Stay tuned, new stuff will be out really really soon!!!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
The reason we came into music, the goal of writing and recording new songs, is to play them live. I remember when we were kids: we loved to imitate our idols during their shows, and all we wanted was to get on stage to rock the audience. We started to make gigs quickly after the creation of the band, and we’ve always loved to share our energy with the public. As grown men, nowadays our goal is to keep this teenage energy on stage and remember the freshness of music through the shows! The next concert will take place to celebrate the release of the album, November 7th 2020 in the CCO, Lyon, France. It will be a big rock party with our friends from Stereotypical Working Class and Trank, and we will propose a rock show with a lot of surprises!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We are already working on new songs to record a new EP end 2020. A live video will be recorded during the concert for the release of the album, and 2021 will be marked with the release of new music videos and the new EP. We hope that it will allow us to book some great gigs with bands we love, and keep the inspiration to write new songs and make the experience even greater!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
All our music is free to listen on every streaming platform (Spotify, Deezer…). Some merch is yet available (CD’s, T-shirts…) and you can buy it via our Facebook page or our Bandcamp account.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
All that we want for our listeners is to enjoy. To feel free to love the music as we love it, no matter the style or influence. We have a lot of music influences and we always wanted to enjoy them together even if they could be contradictory. In a day of your life, you can be happy, sad, angry or crazy. The best way to live these emotions is to let them flow through you and to express them without holding back… That’s what we want to share with our music and live shows: you can be all these things at once and the music helps us to escape; even for the time of a song or a concert. Living and sharing this with our listeners to make them live these emotions with us to feel better is the more important thing for us.
