Riveryard Talks of Creative Music and the Future Ahead!
Indie rock band RIVERYARD have released a handful of tracks so far, with more awaiting to be released. They are always writing all new stuff, with even more tracks ready to go. With the way things are due to the pandemic, the band like many has to hold off on playing for now, but will continue to release content as time permits. The band talks more or less about their music, forming and the future ahead of them.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band with it's current members was created in January of 2017 as 4-piece. After the previous lead singer ran out on the band the night before a new year's eve gig, Simon was asked if he could fill in last minute. Knowing only a few songs from the set list he stayed up all night remembering lyrics and agreed to do it. He officially joined the band a week later. Dom and Lennon have played in a variety of bands together throughout their youth, Lennon originally being the bass player. We started out doing mainly pub gigs to boost our following in our hometown and moved on to Manchester clubs after a while. We went on to release 3 tracks, seaside, piece of mind and capture, and went to record 5 in London.
As of the beginning of this year we had a reshuffling of roles with our drummer deciding it was time to leave. After trying out many different drummers we could not find a suitable person to match our style and so Lennon made the brave decision to take up the drums himself. Having never played before it was a struggle at first but he soon got the hang of it. Simon picked up the bass alongside singing as he played guitar from a very young age and we became a 3-piece.
2. What's the origin of the bands name?
Dom saw a sign with a picture of a river above a yard on his way to work and the name stuck.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Leigh, a town within Greater Manchester. The music scene consists mainly of pub cover bands, but also some very good original talent. Bands including The lottery winners and My only solution are great examples, having played alongside them at jam nights and local festivals.
With Manchester being just a short drive away, we often travel to the city center where the music scene is so diverse. So many iconic bands which are massive inspirations to us have come out of there, including oasis, stone roses and the smiths.
4. How would you describe your style?
Currently we have an undetermined style, however we are trying to reach a presence in the indie scene. Having all come from different musical backgrounds, we have combined a variety of styles into our own sort of atmospheric indie vibe.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released 5 tracks so far with another 3 waiting to be released. Seaside was our first which was and still is a big hit among our following. Then came piece of mind, which was a song dedicated to a friend who passed away and capture. We recently released backyard and rain which we recorded with The animal farm in London. Both have gained a lot of attention in the short time they have been out.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are always writing new stuff, with 3-4 full songs ready to be recorded and some unfinished pieces. We dedicate most of our rehearsal time going through new song ideas and tweaking parts so that the song comes out as perfect as can be.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
With the Covid-19 pandemic it has been hard to plan new shows in the future without fear of them being cancelled, however as soon as it is safe to do so we will get back to gigging wherever we can.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We plan to take every opportunity that comes our way in order to reach a massive presence in the indie music industry.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The tracks we have released are playable on a variety of platforms including Spotify, YouTube music and deezer. As for merch we have a few designed T-shirts and will eventually be increasing our range of merch, details of which will be available through our social media platforms.
10. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Let's be honest the audience are going to be too drunk to remember anything. As long as they enjoy the tunes and have a good time we're in business.
