Up and coming artist BETTY HARPER has a single out, with more music currently in the works, with a lot else in-store as well. Betty talks of all this and more!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
When I was younger, I always dreamed of singing for people. I saw how music affected people around me as well as myself and knew that one day I would be capable of writing music that could help people. As I grew up, I started writing my own stuff and as time went on, the lyrics became more meaningful and more powerful. I always dreamed of getting to the stage of where I am at now and this is only the beginning.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
My full name is Bethany Harper, but when my brother was younger he wasn’t able to say that so he just called me Betty and it stuck! Everyone ended up calling me this and it became my new name! I speak on behalf of all Betty’s around the world when I say it’s the coolest name in the world!
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
I grew up in North Wales. We moved to England for a few years then moved back to our hometown. I know that there are many bands in and around where I live but you don’t often see them. A guy I was interviewed by once plays a lot of unsigned artists, but I’m awful with names so I couldn’t tell you who was who!
4. How would you describe your style?
I would describe my music mostly as Ballad-like. It’s all sort of slow and serious, meaningful etc. I have been slated for it by my younger brother Isaac, he says “bro, do you ever write anything happy?”. Rude!
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far, the only song that has been released is ‘Blood is Thicker Than Alcohol” which pays tribute to someone very close to me who went through an abusive relationship with an alcoholic. With this song, you can expect a possible tear or two, it’s very emotional and hard hitting so if you’re having one of those nights, proceed with caution! There are 3 more songs to be released this year so keep and eye and an ear out!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
As well as 3 more songs being released this year, I have been working on some new stuff in the mean time. Working progress!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
As of yet, we have no plans for shows or tours. Once we have more songs and fans, preferably enough to fill a venue haha, we will start thinking of shows but for now? Not yet.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
My plan for the future comes in different parts really. First off, my main goal is to help people through my music. Second of all, if and when I do start making a few pennies I want to use that money to give, like I always wanted to buy my family really nice things and eventually one way or another, I’ll be able to! I think getting to the stage of touring would be another dream come true. Who would say no to that!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to my music on any major streaming platform! Like YouTube, Spotify, iTunes etc. the Betty Harper Facebook page we are selling merchandise too.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
What I would like a listener to remember when listening to my music is that it’s there to help them if help is what they need, don’t ever give up, love yourself and if you’re going through hell keep going because you’ll make it out the other side. A quote that helped me through some of the toughest times.
