Metalcore act OCEANS ON FIRE formed way back in 2016, over time they would come to release material, including a couple of single's here and there. All new music is also in the works and expected to be out this yar as well. The band talks of their content of works and much else below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We formed in 2016 after the break up of our old band, the members that carried over being our singer Liam Nisbet, and guitarists Dani Heggie and Jordan Street. In 2020 we were joined by our current drummer Kerr Milne and finally in 2022, we were joined by our current bassist David Falconer!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
We were inspired by the song 'Colony Collapse' by Architects, taking it from the line “They say the oceans on fire, say it isn't true”. The band had a massive impact on us and the song talked about issues we all care a lot about.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in central Scotland, with members scattered across the east coast, with the city of Dundee being our main hub. There are a lot of great bands and we would happily recommend them all day! A selection of them include, Waves, Catalysis, Crown Solace, Suffer Under Sorrow, To Kill Achilles, Fractures, Vows and From Tyranny!
4. How would you describe your style?
We tend to refer to ourselves as metalcore primarily influenced by bands of the same style from the mid 2000's such as Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and Unearth, while also taking influence incorporating modern metalcore breakdowns. Really riding the centre line between the metal and hardcore sides of metalcore.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
In 2020 we began work on releasing material, starting with our debut single 'Abandoned', our second single 'A Cold, Cold Heart' in summer of 2021 and finally the release of our third and most recent single 'Into The Void'. All of these songs were released with accompanying music videos as part of our trilogy EP 'TRINITY' which released alongside Into The Void in October 2022. We worked really hard on these songs, which can be seen with the large gaps between releases, as we sought out great production and equally high quality music videos so we can really express ourselves and our music to the fullest capacity!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We do! We have already began tracking and developing our next release which we plan to have out in 2023!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Our first show of the year is on February 9th in Dundee as part of the Metal 2 The Masses contest that allows the winners to play the legendary Bloodstock Open Air Festival, so fingers crossed! Aside from that we have a handful of other shows locked in that are yet to be announced but we are very excited for them!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We really and honestly just want to make as much music as we can, play as many shows as we can, with as many awesome bands as we can and have fun doing it! We have a lot of songs in the works for future releases and we are excited to get to release them after our next release.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We have CDs and shirts available on our website oceansonfire.com as well as having our music available on all streaming major services, including bandcamp! All three of our music videos are available to watch on our Youtube channel too!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Previously from comments on our music videos and from talking to people at our shows, the biggest take away is that we are heavy, tight and we put out a lot of energy in our performances! Which as all we can really ask for if we are honest!
