Metal titans MAGEFA have had quite a lot going on since their formation. A demo, EP, various single's, with a planned album and so much else in the works currently. The band talks of more shows planned out for this year, into this next year too!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Kai (Magefa) : Our band started in 2014/2015 when Kevin (Guitar/Vocals) , Thorsten (Bass) and me (Kai-Drums) met in our practice room , which was located in an old Bunker in Frankfurt , Germany. The band has gone since than through a lot of changes in Lineup. The current Lineup consists of :
Kai (drums), Kevin (guitar, vocals), Andreas (bass guitar) and Nico (guitar) . Both Nico and Andreas joined the group in 2022 and since than helped to shape our music into the future of MAGEFA .
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Kai (Magefa) : The band’s name MAGEFA (Pronounced with hard G), comes from Hebrew and means Plague. Like other bands in the extreme metal genre with names coming from the Hebrew language (i.e.: Behemoth , Meshugga , Nephilim and more ) , we decided on the name MAGEFA , as we liked the meaning, and it related to our music.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Kai (Magefa) : Our band is based around Frankfurt a.M., Germany. The Metal music scene in this area is not so big, as if compared to other areas in Germany. But we do have some good Local bands we share the stage with from time to time, ,i.e.: Devastated , Gravial , Stagewar ,Bloodjob , Fleshsphere.
4. How would you describe your style?
Kai (Magefa) : We have been described many things during the last years. I think that unlike bands that only writes their music with same formula , we create our songs with variety of metal influences and not sticking to specific form or genre . One can find in our songs parts from different metal genres :
Death Metal bands like : Cannibal Corpse , Dying Fetus , Carcass , Bolt Thrower , Immolation
Death Core bands like : Thy Art Is Murder , Whitechapel Track Mood : Melodic , then Energetic & Aggressive .
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Kai (Magefa) : In 2016 we released a 3-track Demo called “A Peek Into Human Bodies”.
In 2019 we’ve released the New Era Of Darkness EP ,bringing the most part of our songs to a listenable medium. We were ready for more💪. Instrument Inside released in 2020 and quickly become our fan’s favourite! Our EP Exenteration released in 2021 and since , had more than 300K streams on Spotify alone !. March 12, 2022, our single Back To The Front released -for Bolt Thrower fans . July 27 ,2022- our next single Overdose was released . Brutal Pathology Calls released on Jan 6 , 2023. Rotting Away released on March 08, 2024. New single Bombs Over Europe drops October 20, 2024—prepare for destruction.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Kai (Magefa) : We are currently working on new material to complete the latest 5 singles we released (incl. the upcoming Bombs Over Europe ) into an Album we intend to release next year, and it will have (for the first time also Physical Vinyl in limited numbers ).
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Kai (Magefa) : We do have some more shows planned for 2024 and we are currently planning for next year. You can find out about our shows on our website , as well as on platforms like ‘bands in town’ and ‘songkick’ or our Spotify artist page.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Kai (Magefa) : With the current lineup , we have a solid base to invest even more in our music and aim to a higher level of music writing and technical instrument playing . You will mark that listening to our new release ‘Bombs over Europe’ and the next releases in 2025. We aim to get a chance in playing in some of the Extreme Metal festivals in Germany and Europe in the next years.
