RADIOACTIVE CHICKEN HEADS is a bunch of punks whose mutated likeness has caused some mishaps to create being's that are of the cluck kind and veggie kind. Since forming back in 1993, the band has gone on to release an array of content, albums, EP, demos, with playing shows, touring, as well as doing skirts, plays, TV pilot, and even getting into gaming. A couple of the members go on to discuss themselves, music, and future plans from here on out.
1. First off, introduce yourselves, tell me what is it that you do in Radioactive Chicken Heads?
Carrot Topp: Hey, this is Carrot Topp and I'm the lead vegetable of Radioactive Chicken Heads!
Rockin' Robin: Hi people, it's me, Rockin' Robin. I'm the Queen of the Coop.
2. You were originally formed under the namesake "Joe and the Chicken Heads" who was this "Joe" why the change from that to "Radioactive Chicken Heads"?
Carrot Topp: Joe was a farmer kid, who was the nephew of mad scientist, Dr. Kluckinstein. Joe named the band after himself but we due to artistic differences, we kicked him out and went out on our own as "The Chicken Heads." Once we started making a name for ourselves, the government cracked down on us and forced us to label ourselves "Radioactive Chicken Heads" due to the potentially harmful doses of radiation that we were emitting to our audiences.
3. How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?
Carrot Topp: We play "genetically modified punk rock" or "music for mutants".
4. What image do you think your music conveys?
Rockin' Robin: Fun and colorful. Brings out your inner child.
Carrot Topp: Are you calling us immature?
Rockin' Robin: Well, if you put it that way.
Carrot Topp: I always we were doing something highly sophisticated, but I guess I was wrong.
5. Who are your influences musically or non and who writes the songs, what are they about?
Carrot Topp: My main influences are old school punk bands and novelty records like Dr. Demento plays on his show. Our non-musical influences include cartoons and comic books. We write most of the songs we play. The lyrics are usually written by me and Rockin' Robin. We seem to have a lot of songs about chickens for some reason.
6. If you could summarize the fictional mythology behind this band and its songs, videos, has this ended or is it never ending?
Rockin' Robin: Ummm...what?
Carrot Topp: I think they are asking if we are intending to quit what we are doing.
Rockin' Robin: I don't understand the question.
Carrot Topp: Well, it's not fictional. Everything thing we do is 100% real. To make a long story short, Dr. Kluckinstein created us as part of a master plan to fill the shelves with genetically modified giant frankenfoods that he would own the patents for. We were more interested in rockin' out and escaped from the laboratory. Ever since, he's been sending out his Legion of Goons to try to capture us.
7. If you had to pick one song to show someone who hadn’t heard of Radioactive Chicken Heads, which would it be?
Carrot Topp: Pest Control. Just because that one seems to be the favorite of our fans. It's about me trying to kill Chuck E Cheese.
8. Are you or any of the other members currently involved with any other bands or projects outside of Radioactive Chicken Heads?
Rockin' Robin: I'm currently working on my debut solo album. I'm known all around the world as the Poultry Pop Star. Check out my single, "Hi People, It's Me." It's a hit!
Carrot Topp: I used to front an all vegetable band called the Veg-o-matics but unfortunately, my bandmates were eaten by a giant rabbit named Badd Bunny. Hoping to find some new mutant vegetables one day and bring it back.
9. It's been 7 years since your last album "Tales From The Coop" was released, does the band have any new material in the works, follow-up EP or another LP perhaps?
Carrot Topp: Right now, we are working on finishing two albums of lost and rare Chicken Heads recordings. We are also planning a deluxe edition of our Music For Mutants album, which will include a previously unreleased live set that we recorded in 2008.
10. What could one expect from a live Radioactive Chicken Heads show?
Rockin' Robin: Pure fabulousness, especially if I'm there.
Carrot Topp: You never know what to expect, anything can happen so I recommend going to every show!
11. Whereabouts has the band played and hope to play in the future?
Carrot Topp: We've played all over the USA and parts of Canada, Mexico, and Peru. We hope to play more places that we've never been to.
12. What are your plans for the rest of 2024 into 2025?
Carrot Topp: We're planning to release Tales From the Coop on vinyl for the first time, coming out with a bunch of live action and animated music videos, a comic book, a documentary about the band, and two rarities albums.
Rockin' Robin: I'm planning to release my solo album and more skits and new music videos.
